Last November 23-25, 2016, the National Association for Social Work Education, Inc. (NASWEI) held their 47th National Convention in Legaspi, Albay. This was in compliance with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) memorandum invoking all public and private higher education institutions to participate actively in supporting all concerted endeavour to promote the continuing development of Social Work education and training responsive to changing times.
In that convention, ASI Section Head in Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW), Dr. Elsa H. Ruiz, RSW, was elected as VP -NCR (National Capitol Region) and appointed as Executive Director. ASI was also designated as NASWEI Center in Manila, per 2017-2018 NASWEI President Dr. Melba L. Manapol, RSW of Ateneo de Davao University.
Dr. Ruiz is also the Head of ASI’s summer program in International Diploma Course in Community Development, and the Social Work Education Program (SWEP) in Vietnam, a joint partnership with the Vietnam Ministry of Labor Invalids and Social Affair (MOLISA), Graduate Academy of Social Sciences (GASS) and the Community and Family Services International (CFSI), to hold transnational education program for its government social work professionals.
As part of her functions in NASWEI, Dr. Ruiz is the official NASWEI representative to the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Council for Social Workers under the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) CPD Program for all registered and licensed professionals.
The NASWEI new set of Board of Directors (2016-2018/) took their oath of office last November 25, 2016: President – Dr. Melba L. Manapol; VP Luzon – Dr. Bella Patricia Osalvo; VP NCR – Dr. Elsa H. Ruiz; VP – Visayas, Prof. Rosario Sequitin; VP Mindanao – Dr. Jing Abdulkarim; Secretary – Prof. Stella Abaa; BOD – Prof. Cecile Cabile & Prof. Venancio Estrada, Jr..
