Last November 23-25, 2016, the National Association for Social Work Education, Inc. (NASWEI) held their 47th National Convention in Legaspi, Albay. This was in compliance with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) memorandum invoking all public and private higher education institutions to participate actively in supporting all concerted endeavour to promote the continuing development of Social Work education and training responsive to changing times.


VP Leni G. Robredo to Speak in the 54th Francis Senden Memorial Lecture on “Pakiisang Loob sa Larangan ng Lupa, Tirahan at Trabaho”

On October 1, the Asian Social Institute (ASI) is celebrating its 54th Foundation Anniversary, with the theme close to its vision and mission, “Pakiisang Loob sa Larangan ng Lupa, Tirahan at Trabaho” or “Solidarity and Compassionate Action in the Areas of Land, Shelter and Work”. For the event, which will feature Philippine Vice- President Leni Robredo as Francis Senden Memorial Lecture (FSML) resource speaker, there will be a chance to hear from the grassroots leaders representing farmers, fisherfolks, indigineous groups, informal urban dwellers, and  women, school, church, labor, policy advocate groups, and local government units.


RAPID, A Momentous Event

Rehabilitation, Alternative Programs, Interventions for the Treatment and Prevention of Illegal Drug-Dependence (RAPID) Response Summit was a 2-day event proposed and organized by Civil Society Organizations (International Youth Council, Lingkod Bayani, Civika Institute, Bridging Cultures) and the Asian Development Academy. These partnered with government institutions (the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police, the Local Government Academy), and the Philippine Business for Social Progress, a corporate-led social development foundation.


ASI Conducts the 2016 Social Work Board Review Class

With Ms. Elaine Joy Jalmasco Pena, BSSW Batch 2015 landing the first place in last year’s Social Work Licensure Board Examinations, ASI was inspired to conduct once again the 2016 Board Review Class at the Francis Senden Memorial Hall on May 23 to June 13.


MS Education Conducts their First Community Extension Program in Paliparan

Several  MS Education foreign students  with their Section Head, Dr. Linda Acierto, came together  on August 29 to go to Paliparan, Dasmarinas, Cavite, on their first community extension program. Assisting them were MS Education alumni were Ms. Lyn Dizon, Head of Community Development in Arellano University, Ms. Dela Paz Retirado, an alternative education specialist of the Dept. of Education, and Ms. Corazon Katigbak, of ASI’s  Human Resource Development  Office.  Social  Development VP- Prof. Dennis Batoy and Field Exposure Coordinator Ms. Niobe Espinosa led the small ASI group to conduct an ocular survey and to meet the youth scholars and women representatives of the Samahan ng Kababaihan ng Paliparan.
