Course Description:

The program envisions that diocesan priest students become persons who are holistically renewed and transformed in faith as they fully participate in the mission of the Church in our society today.

  1. To realize this vision, the program commits itself to the following principles:
  2. Primacy of faith experience and its cultural context;
  3. A Christ-inspired mission and ministry;
  4. Global, ecumenical and interfaith in perspective, action, and celebration;
  5. Interdisciplinary in approach; and
  6. Focus on servant leadership in the management of change.

Course Objectives:

  1. Process the priests’ life issues and resolve matters accordingly toward self-enhancement and personal maturity;
  2. Focus their spiritual search toward the charism and lifestyle befitting diocesan priests;
  3. Evaluate their theological views vis-à-vis the Church, Church and His mission (Ecclessiology, Christology and Missiology), starting from their concrete experiences leading to the acquisition of an updated theological framework;
  4. Experience community life with fellow diocesan priests, enriched by mutual trust and support, and in the process, formulate the dynamics and goals of community building with the parish setting; and
  5. Acquire new skills in participatory research, communications, project planning and management, community organization, and organizational development and planning.

Methodology:

Lectures, workshops, reflections, structured learning exercises and a one-week live-in field exposure in selected rural-urban poor communities.

Course Content:

  1. Perspectives on Transformative Praxis
  2. Process of Values Development and Human Relations Training
  3. Understanding the Community from a Socio-Cultural Perspective
  4. Community Development:
    • Principles, Theories and Practices
    • Basic Principles and Phases in Community Development
    • Community Organizing
    • Participatory Action Research
    • Conflict Management
    • Project Development and Management (Planning, Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Resource Mobilization)
    • Community Disaster Risk Reduction
  5. Development on the Mezzo Level:  Co-creating Sustainable Bio-regional Communities (CSBCom)
  6. Field Exposure/Immersion
  7. Communication for Development
    • Sociology of Communication
    • Spirituality of Communication
    • Communication Skills Development (Newsletter-writing, which includes graphic design and PowerPoint presentation; Visual Arts, which includes poster-making and photo-voice; and, Community Drama)
    • Training Design and Techniques
  8. Theology Renewal
    • Spirituality and Discernment
    • Personhood and Sexuality
    • Theological Perspectives/Themes

Course Session:

  • Monday to Saturday
  • 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon
  • 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

The applicant must submit the following:

  1. Fully accomplished application form for the Socio-Pastoral Renewal Course for Priests
  2. Curriculum Vitae
  3. Letter of recommendation from the bishop
  4. Medical Certificate indicating fitness to undertake the course

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Twenty-one (21) to fifty (50) years old
  2. With experiences in pastoral (parish) work
  3. Committed to stay for the entire duration of the seminar
  4. Proficient in the English language

FEES

Fees include materials, exposure, cultural fest, graduation, etc.  Transportation expenses to and from place of origin and pocket money are shouldered by the participants.
