We are happy to announce that on October 4-6, 2012, Asian Social Institute (ASI) will celebrate its 50th (Golden) Anniversary with the theme, “50 Years of ASI’s Commitment to Total Human Development: Reaping the Harvest and Planting Seeds on New Ground.”

In this connection, we are coming up with a “Souvenir Program” to feature ASI alumni, both foreign and local, who are in different dimensions of total human development addressing the issues of various sectors, such as: children, youth,

elderly, indigenous groups, farmers, fisher folk, educators, small entrepreneurs, labor and migrants, both on the macro and micro levels. We shall dramatize the fact that when Rev. Fr. Francis Senden, cicm, PhD, ASI Founder, died, he had only P700 pesos to bequeath to his lay collaborators.

Now, ASI’s buildings are all grants; it has been able to make students of modest means study in ASI through scholarship grants and tuition subsidies. It has facilitated the self-empowerment of fisher folk and farmers; accompanied many dioceses in building a BEC culture and in the formation and training in capacity-building of Church workers. All these were made possible by mission-partners locally and abroad. Now, it is engaged in giving social work education to 400 CEOs of the counterpart of DSWD in Vietnam.

ASI’s graduates represent a diversity of Christians and faiths from almost all countries of  Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, East Timor, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines); East Asia (China, Japan, Hongkong, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea); South Asia (Sri-Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal & Afghanistan); and from other continents such as Africa, Canada, Europe and USA. While it is Christian-inspired, it is ecumenical and interfaith in its process of reality-assessment, action, reflection and celebration. While it is grassroots-oriented (the poor and marginalized as its frame of reference), it is global and cosmic in perspective. While it advocates cultural rootedness, it promotes openness to learning from other cultures, theorizing from experience and humane, creative and liberating in process. Many lay, diocesan priests and members of religious congregations have been formed and trained by ASI and from whose various experiences ASI has enriched its study sessions and training modules.

ASI is grateful to partner agencies who have contributed to its own growth and development, foremost among which is the Francis Senden Memorial Foundation (FSMF), a local foundation that was established by prominent CICMs with the purpose to assist the operations of ASI (an organization that lives the socio-pastoral ideals of ASI’s founder). These partner agencies will be featured in the Souvenir Program.

ASI has a network of church organizations, schools and universities, NGO groups and pertinent government agencies that have been cooperators of ASI, a school of transformative praxis towards Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC). Be a friend, a mission partner by placing an ad in our upcoming Souvenir Program with a message. We encourage religious congregations to promote vocations through the ad; schools/universities to promote their program of studies; business entities to promote their product or service; NGOs to promote their services and alternative products. Please choose the preferred size for your ad as per attached contract. Or, you may prefer to simply donate for the mission of ASI. All donors/mission partners will be listed in this Souvenir Program.
